Team Arrowood

When you set out to build a company made up of exceptional team members, the field narrows considerably. That is perfectly fine with us because it has resulted in a collaborative group that inspires its individuals to greater accomplishments with every project. Each Arrowood team member has an enviable skill set combined with a desire to create beautiful spaces that delight our clients. We wouldn’t want it any other way.

Brett Kalamen, VP of Construction—Brett is responsible for managing Arrowood’s day to day operations.

He handles the company’s construction contracts and loans and coordinates all aspects of each home’s plans - from design through permits. He also oversees construction on all projects and expertly guides homeowners through the entire build process. Brett started his career as a superintendent for another residential builder and joined the Arrowood team in 2007, where he has continued to take on additional responsibilities. Brett and his wife knew they wanted to live in a ski town and a camping trip to Bend nearly 20 years ago was all it took to make their choice clear. They have lived here ever since and love taking year-round advantage of its outdoor lifestyle.

John L. Muir, Architect—John has served as Arrowood’s lead architect since 2005.

He is licensed in Oregon and Colorado and his work in Aspen, Bend, and Colorado’s Roaring Fork Valley underscore his ability to create elegant design solutions for homeowners who seek the rugged lifestyle outside and timeless creature comforts inside. John earned his degree from the University of Idaho and began his career in California in 1983. His philosophy is to design with the client needs in mind. He utilizes natural, sustainable materials that echo the home’s surroundings, and sound build principles that ensure enduring quality. A Central Oregon native, John’s love of adventure and the outdoors occupies his free time and informs his inspiring work.

John Lietz, President—John founded Arrowood and serves as the company’s President.

His career spans nearly five decades focused in the areas of real estate development planning, design, marketing and site engineering. His guiding principle for himself and the Arrowood team is to create, within various price ranges, the most livable and enjoyable communities possible. Leading with this principle, John oversees his team’s progress on each and every new home. After earning his MBA, John lived in San Diego where he worked to create a niche market of concepting, designing and building communities of 20 to 80 homes. In the mid-nineties, real estate began to dwindle in San Diego just as it was ramping up in Central Oregon. John made the move to Bend and brought his unique planned community model with him. Here, he has found community values and a quality of lifestyle and colleagues that inspire his work every day.

Femke Van Velzen, Brand and Design Director—Femke has been with Arrowood since inception and is its brand manager and lead designer.

She leverages her creative career in international business to business advertising and marketing by working closely with clients to discover their wants and needs and translate them into materials, color palettes and design solutions that reflect their taste and lifestyle. She enjoys being part of a small team and wears many hats for Arrowood, from branding the neighborhoods to designing their homes to selecting the perfect finishes. Femke was born and raised in The Netherlands and earned a BS in Institutional Management. Her career has taken her to Amsterdam, Paris, and Palo Alto, but when she was ready for a change of lifestyle in the mid-nineties, Bend beckoned and she has claimed it as home ever since. She enjoys spending her free time in nature and creating with a variety of media.

Amy Oatman, Accounting—Amy has been with Arrowood since 2005 and is responsible for the company’s accounting, payroll, HR, insurance, and licensing needs.

She’s also been known to leave her desk, roll up her sleeves and plant shrubs or paint at our properties. Prior to joining Arrowood she worked as a bookkeeper at Verizon for nearly a decade. Amy was born and raised in Albany, Oregon but spent her weekends and vacations visiting extended family who lived in Bend. The day after her high school graduation she moved to Bend permanently and went on to marry a Bend resident.

Clint Potter, Superintendent for 1925 and Custom Homes—Clint brought his breadth of experience to Arrowood in 2010.

In the construction industry since 1992, Clint has held positions on a concrete crew, as a framer, as a superintendent, and as a self-employed builder. He now oversees projects for Arrowood from planning to completion, paying close attention to budgeting, scheduling and quality control. Clint lived in Washington State before he and his wife, in 1994, initially moved to Sunriver, where her family spent many vacations. He and his family then made the short journey north to Bend where they have lived and worked since 2005.

Charly Smith, Project Coordinator—Charly joined Arrowood in 2018 and assists in both the design and construction phases of the homebuilding process.

While most of her professional experience has been in the medical field, every position has expanded her creative process, and she enjoys seeing each house turn into a home that is unique to its homeowner. Charly was born and raised in Bend and, while she spent a few years in Arizona for school and to grow her career, she is happy to be back in Bend raising her family and sharing her talents with the Arrowood team.

Devin Clason, Superintendent for Tartan Druim and Custom Homes—Devin joined Arrowood in 2015 in a support role and quickly moved from that to his current position as superintendent.

His years of experience as a tile setter and builder of energy efficient homes give him a valuable insider’s perspective on all aspects of the home building process. Devin was born and raised in Bend but moved to Portland for his career. His brother, who has done tile setting for over 15 years for Arrowood, convinced him to move back to Bend and join our team, and we are so glad he did.

Stephanie Ruiz, Broker—Stephanie has been part of Arrowood’s outside sales team since 2013.

A top producing broker at Cascade Sotheby’s, she has more than 12 years of real estate experience. Prior to becoming a broker, she worked for a private investment firm for 10 years. Stephanie also understands the Central Oregon marketplace and seamlessly guides our clients through the purchase process, from start to finish. Raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, Stephanie and her husband relocated to Bend in 2003. They were drawn to the area by the endless opportunities for outdoor fun and spend time waterskiing, golfing, taking in local concerts, mountain biking and more. Stephanie also enjoys watching her three kids at their athletic events and says Bend is the perfect place to raise a happy, healthy family.

Jordan Grandlund, Principal Broker—Jordan is one of Cascade Sotheby’s top producers and has partnered with Arrowood since 2013.

A broker since 2007, she has weathered the industry’s ups and downs, which gives her a unique and valuable perspective. Clients appreciate her local insight as well as her specialized expertise in luxury transactions. Jordan is a native Oregonian who grew up in a real estate family, so she says continuing that tradition was an easy career decision. She and her husband have lived in Bend for 13 years and spend their free time running, snowboarding, cross country skiing and camping. She loves getting to do all this in one of the world’s top-ranked mountain towns, and in the company of her son, Kas, and dog, Revel.
